Scan Me

I love funky things. Especially when it comes to social media. Anything that shakes up the status quo is an added bonus.

QR (quick response) readers are big over the pond, but are just gaining popularity in the States. You see QR codes on conference badges, t-shirts for promos, and business cards. I have seen local stores sporting QR codes on their front windows and apps like Stickybits are shaking up traditional ‘check-in’ apps like Foursquare.

Some may think it gimmicky. Others may think it cutting edge. Whichever side of the fence you happen to be on, it is an interesting development in the tech realm to say the least.

If you have a smartphone, you can download, often for free, a QR reader or a barcode scanner. Then viola, you are in the QR game; scanning away. The best part is when you can create your own QR reader to quickly share contact information, your Twitter handle or Facebook page. I find it useful if the shared information can be downloaded right into my computer contacts. which saves me from having to manually input email addresses and telephone numbers.

Intrigued? Some great QR generator sites to check out are 2dscan and kaywa. Other cool ones are Scanlife and JumpScan.

I think I may sport some sort of QR code at the Blissdom Conference I am speaking at later this month. Just what to put in my code is the dilemma, but what a fun dilemma to have.
