Wondering what to shop for, buy for, and wear for spring 2014? After scouring style blogs, fashion forward retailers and, of course, celeb watching, here are my Spring 2014 Fashion Trends top six picks.

1. Draw String Bucket Bags: A fun and carefree handbag for the warmer months! Just find one that cinches easily. Otherwise, you’ll have a gaping, open bag with all of your goods exposed. I personally wouldn’t spend much money here since it is a really trendy concept. Rather, I’d find a version that I liked in a fun color, like soft orange, or this blue bag from Nordstrom.

2. Wide Leg Pants: While it doesn’t replace skinny jeans (oh well) it is a freshing alternative, especially in dark wash. Pair with a shoe rounded toe and a thicker heel as a pointed toe will look disproportionate to the wide legs.

3. Nautical: Tred carefully here. Think less of the red, white and blue nautical look. Rather, look for a fun sweater with an anchor on it for some whimsy. Or bold navy striped blouse paired with a fresh pair of white boyfriend jeans, and maybe an orange bracelet. It is nautical but still contemporary and less ‘I belong to the local boat club’ look.

4. Button Down Shirts: Look for ones that are collar-less for a fresh take on a classic. I love the tunic length versions, but consider one that you can tuck into a pair of shorts or cute skirt too.

5. Bomber Jackets: For those of you that lived in the 80s, you may shutter at the thought of donning a bomber jacket again. But to avoid a flashback, find fresh versions in silk or vegan leather and treat it like a blazer alternative for a modern addition to a pair of jeans running errands with the kids or with a skirt for work.

6. Pointy Toe Flats: I’m excited for flats because, well, I wear them all the time. So it is an easy stretch to incorporate the pointy toe look. However, consider your body type. As much as I love the concept, in reality, I have big calves. So the scale of a pointy toe shoe doesn’t work for me. But if you have a slim leg, this could make your legs look even longer (lucky!).
