With white out conditions outside my window as I type, I am already thinking ahead to spring and what key pieces I want to add to my closet for the season. This season, colors are really taking hold, and, if I’d be so bold, even more so than structure or texture trends normally do. Here are the Spring 2014 color trends to consider when buying a new pair of pants, shoes or t-shirt.
1. Metallics: Whether it is in your shoes or your handbags, metallics are in for spring. But to keep it fresh, stick with silver or fun metallic colors for a spring appropriate feel. I’m in love with this Tory Burch bag.

2. Black and White: Still rocking’ for 2014, which makes me happy since I love black and white. For Spring 2014, think more graphic and geometric black and white pairings and patterns than in prior seasons. The coat below is a great example.

3. Pastels: I look horrible in pastels, but it is BIG for spring. If you look great in soft pinks, lovely lavender, minty greens, or baby blues, rock it, my friend. Otherwise, if you are like me, find other ways to sport the look. Maybe in shoes, accessories, nail polish or pants, and stay away from any pastels near your face that make you look washed out, which kind of defeats the fashion forward factor. Or wear a pastel tank underneath a more flattering color jacket or sweater.

4. Orange and Melon. As you probably have heard, orange is the new black. And that mantra is not waning. Especially in the melon hues this season. When reaching for a black pair of shoes or a black bag, grab an orange sister instead. Throw on a melon bracelet or a scarf as it will look great with any color you are wearing. I’m loving this scarf with all the colors.
