Summer Essentials List: Travel, Party and Pool

sponsoredpostgraphicThere has not been many personal parties this summer for me. Probably because I was planning a MASSIVE party called Blogger Bash. I personally planned this 400 blogger, 100 press, 110 brand two day event in NYC. Talk about the party of the year. Yet, wow, was that hard work.

We did have a fun celebration surrounding my daughter’s 2nd birthday! However, we were (literally) rained out for our 4th of July weekend parties. (Hurricanes will do that to you.) The following weekends after that, I was traveling to NYC or traveling back from NYC pre and post Blogger Bash, so it has been hard to find a weekend since then to celebrate summer.

Sometimes I think we spend more time worrying about the thought of planning a big summer party, or time worrying about planning a party during the summer, that we wonder where the summer has gone? Isn’t it a better idea to make every day of summer a celebration?

In fact, as a family, we have spent more time outside having dinner. Eating popsicles on the steps. Just enjoying the fleeting days of summer here in the northeast. It has been fun celebrating an afternoon with extended family when our schedules allow.

Summer Essentials List

Here is what to have on hand for a simple party: DRINKS (A selection of juice boxes, lemonade, water and soda). SPRINKLER (Great way to have fun and cool off whether you are 2 or 52.) POPSICLES (Seriously, a summer staple.) CHIPS (For easy snacks.) and BUBBLES.

Everyone loves bubbles!

Of course, we are a bit spoilt with access to a pool. But if you don’t have one, a fun sprinkler, water table or inflatable pool is great too. (Best ones at Target, of course.)

If you have access to the pool, make sure to bring floaties for the young ones, a selection of towels, pool toys, waterproof sunscreen and some swimmer shampoo! Again, you can get everything at Target.

At our summer get togethers, we talked about how fast summer goes by, and traded stories of summer camp, and what day trips we had planned for August. We also chatted about must-have summer essentials when we are traveling with the kids. Based on the groups’ feedback, this is what we think parents should have in a backpack at all times during the summer season.

summer essentials

SUNSCREEN, BUG SPRAY, BANDAIDS, SUNGLASSES, HAT, WATER, GRANOLA BARS, ANTIBIOTIC CREAM, ALLERGY TABLETS, TOWEL (for those impromptu stops at the beach or at those splash zones at the local park), BABY POWDER (great for getting sand off legs and toes), and HAND SANITIZER (for all of the dirty playground equipment and kid places because being sick during the summer is no fun!)

And if you want, you can always create little gift bags to have on hand for unexpected summer guests. Just get those little fabric bags at the craft supply store and fill with bandaids, first aid supplies, and sunscreen!

Of course, bubbles is probably also another must-have addition here too. When the kids are fussy – whether at home or on the go, head outside with some bubbles, and all seems right with the world!

Yes, summer goes by quickly but there are still 6 weeks of it. So stock up on these essentials I’ve mentioned above – for the day trips, the pool parties, and the backyard parties. You can find everything at Target for fast, one stop shopping so you can get out for the store and into the fun of summer!
