As Earth Day looms, I admit I am not very green. As I mentioned in my previous post, I am more light-green because I drive an SUV, don’t remember reusable bags at Whole Foods, reach for paper towels instead of actual towels and diaper using disposables.
Anyone else in the same boat?
So while I may not win a ‘green’ award, I do some things that minimize the impact of those decisions.
For example, if I use paper towels, I recycle the used sheet. I use biodegradable lining for the diaper pail and chlorine-free diapers. When I drive the SUV, I plan my route so I minimize driving time, and the paper bags from Whole Foods I use to line trash cans for recycling.
But all of you totally rock. When asked what your family does to be “green”, here are some of your replies and ideas:
- Switch shower head to a low-water shower head.
- Buy local produce.
- Bring your own bags to the grocery store.
- Bike instead of drive.
- Use green cleaning products.
- Use reusable lunch containers.
- Reuse plastic baggies by washing them between uses.
- Reuse water bottles.
- Recycling – plain and simple.
And of course, enter the Scott Naturals Pledge on their website where they encourage people to pledge to “test-drive” their new Scott Natural Products. Then, if you pledge, you can enter to win a hybrid car. (Woot!) But what a simple way to be a bit more green, just by switching out some napkins, paper towels or toilet paper. Another way to help the green effort is to click this URL, which will donate one dollar for every click up to $25,000 to the Natural Wildlife Foundation. Seriously. Just a click!
All great ways to celebrate Earth Day (and Earth Month)!
So the next question is, how do we inspire our kids to follow in our footsteps on Earth Day and beyond? What do you do to engage your family? I’d love to hear your ideas so I can share them in the next post. If you leave a comment, I’ll giveaway another round of Scott Naturals products to say thanks!
Congrats to Jacob.
