New Fantasyland Opening Ceremony
When I had the opportunity to ask the Chairman of Disney when was the ah-ha moment that the began the work for the New Fantasyland, he said that it began when Fantasyland first opened 31 years ago. It has been a culmination of many, many people, and even us, as guests, as our experiences over the years has shaped the changes we see in New Fantasyland today.
If you have visited the Magic Kingdom in these past three decades, your memories are filled with submarines, gondolas, Dumbo, Tea Cups and Toads. Now it is Circuses, Beasts, and Mermaids, but still the beloved elephant. Work officially began in 2009 and is still a work in progress as the Snow White ride is not yet completed. But the Storybook Circus, and as of today, the Enchanted Forest, is now open to the world and to the next generation of little princesses & princes.
Walt Disney himself said he hoped that the Disney Parks would always be growing, and if he were here today (and maybe if you believe, he is) it would be one of his finest hours. It is now a defining moment for the imagineers, the leaders, the crew and the cast, that have been carrying on his dream. So let the ( new ) story begin.
