The Joovy VaryLight Caboose is awesome for so many reasons. If you wonder how I come to that conclusion, you should read this post if you haven’t already. If you have, then you know why I was in dire need of a two kid stroller solution.

My brother has twin girls and loves his stroller, but with children of different ages (with a strong need for “leg independence”), I needed a stroller solution that met those needs, but still was not over $1000, had a snack tray, good storage, and I could lift after my abdominal surgery (the stroller is 34 pounds for a double stroller!)

You’d think you could easily get that in the stroller, right? Ha! (And for you Moms out there, you know what I mean. For you non-Moms, you’ll soon find out…)

So roll out the Joovy VaryLight Caboose. I got a complimentary copy for review and it showed up on day Two of our Disney Vacation. (Thank the G). We spent one day in the Magic Kingdom without it and I wanted to cry and my husband needed a back massage (from carrying the kids when they got tired.) We have done the park rental, we have done the independant stroller rental (even once rented a double Baby Jogger). But too wide, too bulky, and did not meet our in/out, up/down, snack tray, storage needs.

For the rest of our vacation we used the Joovy Caboose VaryLight Double Tandem Stroller,. Even a Disney Cast member commented on its awesomeness (and they push and move a lot of strollers everyday!)

Joovy varylight stroller review Charlene Chronicles

As you can see from this picture, my now 2 year old daughter sat in the front while my 4.5 year old son sat in the back. (We pushed back the canopy so you could see her!)

The snack tray is an essential. Not only for easy access to water in the hot Florida heat, but for no fuss treats. It was simple to just rinse of the tray back at the hotel. Plus we didn’t have to take it off to get her out. It swings out of the way. (By the way, she is noshing on a Dole Whip!)

If you notice in the above photo, the canopy is off. (You don’t see it on the stroller.) While we didn’t really have it off most of the time during our Florida trip (due to the strong sun), it can easily pop off for options/flexibility.

Sometimes after using stroller parking at Disney after a ride, my son would want to walk and my daughter would hop on the back. It was perfect when she didn’t want to be ‘strapped’ in, but we didn’t have to carry her or worry about her in the crowds.

Even my parents got in on stroller duty. My Mom is 5’1″ and my Dad is 5’11” and they both found it comfortable to push and navigate busy Disney.

Getting around is easy. Pretty maneuverable for a big stroller, and it is easy fold to get in the car.

We did get the Joovy Caboose VaryLight Parent Organizer and Cup Holders. In the parent console, it is hard to stash a Starbuck Iced Latte since the parent console is on an angle but it works for a soda bottle or water bottle and my son liked it to put his sippy cup in so he felt like he had a little ‘tray’ when he was in his side of the stroller. However, you can also get optional single cup holders that you can attach to the front and the back, and the tray, that comes with the stroller, can go in the back instead of the front too.

Hopefully you can see from the above photos that the undercarriage basket stores a lot. So it is nice not to have to schlep around lunches. We even at times just stuck our backpack just behind our son, and he still had plenty of room to sit or stand. All we had to do was expand the stroller. It goes from 43 inches long to 50 inches long. It also helps if you want to use the 3 position recline in the front seat.

The stroller was a godsend in the airport, though it only fits in the X-ray machine if you take the wheels off (easy), the canopy (easy) and the tray (easy) while juggling the kids (not so easy.)

The front specs is for a child up to 55 pounds and 40 inches in height. The back is 55 pounds and 44 inches in height. I wish we had this when our daughter was born (you can get a car seat adapter to use a car seat in the front or back). However, better late that never! Since our Disney vacation, we have taken it to the Farm, the Aquarium, the local Children’s Museum and the Mall, of course. We don’t go anywhere without it when we know we will need a stroller. There is not much I would change about it. It is a fantastic stroller.

  2. That’s a good looking stroller! I think it would be great for my 2 year old and the 5 and 7 year old to pop on/off of at Universal Studios. They get tired, but I don’t want to push a beast around!
