We were super lucky to be invited to the Disney Social Media Moms Conference and head to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for a week. We, of course, needed to surprise the kids with the trip to Disney. How fun is that! I event recently wrote a post about ways to surprise your kids with a trip to Disney. However, when it came time to do a Disney trip reveal surprise, we kept it simple. Here’s why.
My son did not receive good reading instruction when he was in kindergarten last year. As a parent, you may know how bad it can be if you don’t get a good teacher(s) in critical years. As a result, last summer he was so behind in reading levels. We spent the summer with reading specialists and carried it over into the fall. It was a lot of work on his part and on part of the family with all the scheduling and car rides. It was all worth it.
He began the year only knowing 4 sight words. Now, he knows them all. A simple BOB book was a source of frustration, but now he can read Level 2 Scholastic Books. As a parent, I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am to see him read. Even when we go to the grocery store, he now can read the signs, or as we drive down the road, he says aloud the words on the billboards.
So when we did the Disney reveal, I knew I needed to write it out on a sign for him to read. While I did not get to catch it on camera, he later told his little sibling, “We are going to Disney because I could read the sign saying we are going.”
Here is the one minute video showing him reading the sign and the resulting squeals. (They were super excited to even go to McDonalds.) And you may notice him wearing his Patriots hat. Sorry for any other football fans out there, but who knew the hat would be a good luck charm that night! #superbowl #gopats
Fun times and more fun times ahead on our trip. Are you planning a trip to Disney soon? Don’t forget to read my surprise ideas (link in the first paragraph) and check out all my Disney related reviews!
Safe travels!
