Bright Starts Buggy (Having a Ball Count and Roll Buggie)

Bright Starts Buggy ToyI received this adorable little pink lady bug (officially called the Having a Ball™ Count and Roll Buggie from Bright Starts by KidsII) to review recently. When it arrived on my doorstep, it was like Christmas. We call it the second child syndrome! Our 3.5 year old son has ‘passed down’ his toys to his sister and they are pretty beat up and gender neutral. They still work and are well loved, but I have to say, I get a bit giddy when there is something girly and new for her that is her solely her own. Well, kind of. My son saw it when he got home from preschool and started playing with it too.

The product is geared towards kids 6-36 months so there is a great age range with this product, which is why both my son and daughter are drawn towards it. (We are having a crash course in sharing lessons right now!) What I like about it from a play factor, is that it does have such longevity and multi-functional use. For my 8 month old, it encourages her to be active and crawl after the Buggie. It also aids in her gross motor skills as she tries to put the balls in the opening at the top. For my older son, it is an opportunity to focus on colors and numbers. I’ll ask him to put the blue ball or the pink ball in the Buggie, and see if he gets it right. Alternatively, I’ll ask him to count the balls as he drops them in the top. Overall, it is just really cute and fun.

The Buggie seems pretty sturdy for less than $20 for a toy. My daughter and son are pretty rough with it, and it has held up just fine thus far, so it seems as if it will make it for the full age range of the product. If we had bought it ourselves, it would have been worth the value for sure! You can find it at BuyBuyBaby or Target.

But here is the video if you want to see it in action and how my kids play with it. (One minute in length.)

As you can see from the video, it turns out that everyone in the house, including the dog, loves this. While I didn’t get a video shot, I swear that I even heard my husband chuckling one night when he was ‘putting the toys away’ (aka, playing with it.)

I also want to share that we are fans of the Bright Start line, especially this Around We Go Activity Center, as we call it. We got ours from a consignment shop, but if you are looking for an activity center that also encourage walking, leg strength, fine and gross motor skills, I can’t rave enough about it.

Happy playing!

Personalized Santa Video: “Your Santa Story”

I want to share with you something that will knock your Christmas stockings off.

If you’ve done Elf on the Shelf, or those personalized letters from Santa, then this is totally for you. It is a personalized Santa video called, “Your Santa Story.”

YOUR_SANTA_STORY

It is a customized DVD featuring Santa Claus (think real white beard, jello belly and a twinkle in his eye kind-of Santa) that will address your kids by name and talk about how Santa is proud of Timmy sleeping in his new big boy bed, Sarah being such a great big sister or Michael getting straight As in Math. But here is the real deal.

It’s not one of those, “Hi, I’m Santa. It was great to visit your house [insert automated name here.]” Nope, this Santa…err…{note kids may be reading over your shoulder} comes back from the North Pole after delivering the toys, tiptoeing past Fido & eating your specialty cookies. Since Santa has to make a custom DVD for each family who…umm…wants one, they are in limited supply. Santa only has so much time in the day.

Santa lets the family know that there will be special surprise coming the day after Christmas by leaving a calling card somewhere in the house where the kids will find it. Then, the morning after Christmas (or the night of Christmas), Santa leaves a video message and one last surprise.

Santa decided to send me an advanced copy since I’ve been a decent Mom this year. Since it’s pre-Christmas, and Santa is busy in his workshop, I needed to give Santa a heads up and you will too. I filled out a form online where I put in my kids’ names, how to pronounce them, the names of our pets, the type of cookies we would leave out for Santa and some special things that my kids did this year. I also shared a little hint on where Santa could leave one last Christmas gift. I hit “submit’ and waited for my DVD to arrive.

When I got it, I popped it in the DVD one day when the kids took a nap. After watching it, I called my Mom, my brother, and my friend. I had to show them because I was blown away.

Santa nailed it. Click here to see a video sample.

With Christmas fast approaching, make sure you get your order in as soon as possible to ensure delivery by Christmas morning, and maybe check out the weekly Facebook giveaway too – if you win one, you can take the cost of the DVD ($29.95) and splurge on another holiday present. Santa speaks English, Spanish and Sign Language. He also has special messages for Military families. {Santa rocks.}

Santa creates an amazing way to create lasting memories for your family, from little ones who are in awe of Santa to big kids who need a nudge to keep believing. It is such a wonderful opportunity to bring the sparkle back to Christmas. This personalized Santa video from Santa is definitely one of my top finds of 2012.

TinyLove Butterfly Stroll Arch Video Review

The TinyLove Tiny Princess Butterfly Stroll (or the gender neutral Sunny Stroll) is probably one of the best $20 you can spend.

This baby item can be used to entertain and engage your little one in many different locations. Put it on a bouncer, a highchair, a stroller, a car seat and any other place you can think where your baby will be. Bring it to a restaurant and clamp it on the restaurant high chair. It is a multifunctional piece, which is no surprise since it’s from TinyLove. Between the 3-in-1 Rocker Napper and this item, TinyLove really gets what it’s like to be a parent.

Peppa Pig Toys and Video Review

If your family is like mine, you only begin to discover TV programs when your child comes of age.  Since my son is about to turn three, we are discovering a variety of kid programs. The most recent one is Peppa Pig.

Peppa Pig

Peppa Pig is a television program from the U.K. that has been airing in the United States since 2005, and currently airs on Nick Jr.  Since each episode is five minutes long with simple, colorful graphics, and some tasteful bodily functions (burps, pig noises, and…err…toots) you’ve got a winner with the toddler and pre-school set.

Peppa Pig
Up to this point, my son has only watched The Wiggles and the Fisher Price Little People DVDs. (He really is a creature of habit.) So I wasn’t quite sure how this review was going to go. I figured I probably have to give the parent perspective and leave it at that.

Peppa Pig

It was a Sunday afternoon when I first put in the Peppa Pig Muddy Puddles DVD in the DVD player.  I liked it because of the simple, yet colorful graphics. As a Mom, I liked the fact it didn’t have any high-energy animation to hyper-stimulate my child. The only negative is that I kept thinking their heads looked like hair dryers, but I’m a parent and over-analyze.

He watched five of the ten episodes: laughing, repeating words, and pointing out objects. Since he seemed to be growing quite fond of Peppa, I decided to pull out the other items in my review box.

Peppa Pig

He really liked the various Peppa Pig Toys, like the Fisher Price Peppa Pig Schoolhouse and spent quite some time playing with it.

Peppa Pig

That afternoon, he wanted to bring the little Peppa Pig figurine upstairs for naptime.

Peppa Pig

After nap, I pulled out the Peppa Pig book called Peppa Pig and the Lost Christmas List. He liked it but, admittedly, was a bit confused on why we were talking about Christmas in September, but the graphics, colors and storyline was cute in this Mom’s perspective.

Peppa Pig

The only complaint I have is that the schoolhouse seems a bit overpriced for what you get, but frankly, and let’s face it, most merchandising products from kids’ TV programs are all similar in that respect (says me who just bought a $15 Wiggles water bottle). So if your child ends up loving Peppa, it may be worth getting items like the schoolhouse (as  you can see from the video, he loved playing with it) and tons of other items like plush dolls, tea sets, and separate figurines. I know ToysRUs sells them now.

I highly recommend the DVD. Very well done and especially great for car rides, rainy days, and since there are 10 five minute episodes, fabulous for when you need to make dinner. Oh, and check out the PeppaPig.com. Really cute games and activities. (Personally loved the diving game). My only warning is that the theme song is rather catchy…so be prepared to sing it over and over in your head.

I received a variety of Peppa Pig items to review. The thoughts, opinions and work product are my own.
