Sesame Street Live

I have such fond memories of Sesame Street. According to my Mom, that’s all I would want to watch when I was a little girl. I even saw Sesame Street live when I was around 7 years old. Since I recall that, it is obviously a great experience that I remember.

Now as a Mom, I am so happy that Sesame Street is still running strong and it is something that I can share with my own children. Of course, Elmo is my son’s favorite, as evidenced by this picture.

Elmo

When I heard that Sesame Street Live was coming to the Agganis Arena during school vacation week here in Massachusetts (shows from April 20-April 22, 2012), I was so excited to share that experience with my toddler too. He can sing and dance with Elmo and all the Sesame Street friends, and the show is a story of adventure and fun that teaches children they can be anyone, do anything and go anywhere with the power of imagination. That is why Sesame Street – whether live, or on TV, is such a great experience for kids. They are educated and empowered at the same time.

While the show is an experience in and of itself, kids can get their sillies out by playing in the Play Zone before the show. Kids can sit in Big Bird’s nest, pop-up in Oscar’s trash can, or visit Elmo’s World. They can see various Sesame Street characters up close too! Talk about some amazing pictures! So bring the camera and you’ll have some amazing memories (and some holiday card options in a few months!) The Play Zone opens one hour before the show and is FREE with a Sesame Street Live ticket!

Here’s a sneak peek:

I am excited to be taking my son (and my Mom who I mentioned at the beginning of this post), thanks to the Sesame Street partners giving us complimentary tickets. But one of you can go too! Just leave a comment and one person will win a voucher of a 4 pack of family tickets to see the show of your choice. What a great way to make some memories! Contest has ended. Congrats to Cheryl for winning!

Lorax Giveaway

We hear about it all the time; “Go Green!” On St. Patrick’s Day, “going green” means to wear a green shirt and shrink green beer. But the other 364 days, it has another meaning.

Yet, what if I didn’t take time to teach that meaning to my children? What would the future environment be like for my toddler?

I saw a preview of Dr. Seuss Lorax movie a month ago. It caught my attention (frankly, unlike many other animated kid movies out there) because it made me realize what the world could be like for my child’s child: not knowing what is a dolphin? Not knowing what is a polar bear. Or, as the Lorax movie discusses, what is a tree?

Yes, what could happen to thee?

As a parent, it’s often something as simple as making ‘green efforts’ as part of our lifestyle. Our children often emulate what we do, so if they grow up in a household that recycles, it will be a natural behavior for them. If we consistently turn off the water when brushing our teeth, they will know the benefit of conserving water. If we turn off the lights when we leave a room, they will understand saving energy.

Even what we eat can provide discussion how it is grown, who makes it and how it impacts the environment through toxins, pollutions and packaging. For example, Stonyfield is brand that many of us parents have given to our babies (YoBaby), toddlers (YoToddler) and kids (YoKids), and now they even have the only greek yogurt for kids. Of course, like their other products, it’s made without pesticides, antibiotics, growth hormones, genetically engineered ingredients or artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners. Thus, it makes sense that Stonyfield, as well as other companies like Seventh Generation (of which we use the diapers), have collaborated with the The Lorax. The very Mission Statement of Stonyfield is “We’re committed to healthy food, healthy people, a healthy planet (emphasis added) and healthy business.”

So what we buy for food or products, what we do, and how we act are simple steps, but they make a big impact; collectively, to our planet, but simply to our children. So if you haven’t already, take them to see the Lorax. Then take time on the way home to have a conversation about it, and listen to their ideas on how they can make an positive change on our planet.

So go green on this St. Patrick’s Day weekend, and everyday going forward. And yes, the luck o’the Irish is upon us nonetheless because I’m giving away a 2 pack of tickets to one lucky person to see the Lorax. Enter via the form below and leave a comment about what you do (or will do) as a family to be more green! (See, it is pretty easy after all!)

Be Cupid for Valentine’s Day

I cannot believe Valentine’s Day is one week away. While the hubby and I don’t do too much for each other, my brothers and I do something special for my Mom and Grandmother. My Grandfather passed away 12 years ago and my Father is in Afghanistan – so there is even more reason for us kids to step up to the plate and share a little love to the matriarchs of the family.

But we are usually scrambling and searching websites for decent flowers or the drugstore aisles for decent candy. Then scouring the internet for discount codes. This year, I’m on it, and I am sharing the love. Here are two awesome discounts for fabulous florals from Pro-Flowers and yummy chocolate dipped berries from Shari’s Berries. Two great companies that you can trust to deliver the prettiest and freshest flowers and berries. Trust them – they’ll make you look good. With the huge options you can find on their respective websites, you definitely will see something fabulous too.

Smilebox Giveaway for Lasting Smiles

For the last day of the 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways, I wanted to close the “giveaway galore” with something that is lasting. Something that can give well beyond the holiday season. That helps you capture holiday memories and all the memories you’ll have in 2012.

The perfect answer was a year-long premium subscription to Smilebox.

Smilebox was founded in 2005 by a group of optimists with a lofty mission: joy is one of the world’s most important renewable resources, and they wanted to help people share it by connecting friends and family in sharing life’s special moments. They found a new and inspired way for us to share treasured photos and videos with family and friends. I have been using it off and on since that time, to find fun ways to share home memories with my father who has been in Afghanistan.

As Smilebox states on their website, “You need to stop reading and go make an awesome Smilebox for your favorite people in the world…Share the love and the smiles.” ….Whether down the street or across the world.

Everything from the ability to take a picture with your free Smilebox iPhone app and then add fun captions to ordinary pictures or, my favorite part – the ability to create online scrapbooks, slideshows and personalized e-cards set to music that you can store, email, post to your blog, post to Facebook or Twitter, print or save to a DVD, Smilebox is such fun.

It is all free, but if you want an ad-free experience, you can sign up for a $30 a year membership, which also gets you more features and designs. You can also add Smilebox to your tool bar (Mac or PC) making it easy at anytime to create a scrapbook, make a slideshow, or send an email card to the grandparents. There are tons of designs, themes, music and picture possibilities, and if you install Smilebox, it even recognizes when you upload new photos to your computer and asks if you want to make a Smilebox creation from the new pix.

Like I mentioned before, you can then share your creation directly from Smilebox: Email it, Burn it to DVD, Save it, Facebook it, or Tweet it. For bloggers, you can upload to WordPress or Blogger directly, which is an unique way to share a product review or blogging event.

Needless to say I am a HUGE fan. For example, in October, I used it to create a birthday party invitation to my son’s 2nd Birthday Party. I also sent a Smilebox Thank You e-card to everyone who attended and used pictures from the party to give it a personalized feel. I also used Smilebox in November. I picked a “Give Thanks” theme that we sent out the day before Thanksgiving. I said how thankful we were for our family; personalized family pictures played in a slideshow with music and the last picture was an ultrasound photograph, which we used to announce that we were expecting baby number two! This month, I send out a Holiday Card with lots of pictures. It saved us lots of money in postage and having to order paper cards, saved us time in addressing and mailing them, saved the environment since it was less paper and gave us the opportunity to use 10 pictures rather than just one!

Honestly, I could go on and on, but you really do need to stop reading. Go to Smilebox.com, download the software and get going. It is simple, fun and everyone will love it. But if you want a premium membership I’m giving one away. While the monetary value is not as large as some of the other 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways I had this year, it is by far the most valuable one in terms of memories and smiles.

Happy Holidays everyone! I look forward to sharing more Chronicles with you in 2012. Thank you for being such wonderful friends and fans.

Note: Not enough people entered for the Giveaway so no winner was selected.

Toy Giveaway (Lots of Toys)

The Holidays are fast approaching. Too fast actually and I needed to step away from the computer to actually shop and wrap. Not as fun, I have to say.

But you may think this 10th and 11th giveaway as part of my 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways are fun though. As I organized my holiday haul, I came across these little toy gems.

How about a giveaway bag full of toys for a boy?

Bag of Toys

Or a giveaway bag full of toys for a girl?

Bag of Toys

Just leave a comment to enter to win! Make sure you leave a comment about which you prefer: boy, girl or either! (Please note that some of these toys are not appropriate for all ages. If you win and there is something you cannot gift or use, please consider donating to a child in need, which I did for some of the items I had.)

Congrats to Jan and Barbara for winning and thank you to everyone for entering. Left over toys I had went to the Marshfield Community Christmas Program.

Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular Review and Giveaway

Radio City Christmas SpectacularEver since I was little, I have always wanted to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, featuring The Rockettes show. Last week, I got my chance.

When I received three complimentary blogger tickets, I knew immediately who I would take. Why we often think of our children, sometimes that is not possible because either it is a school night or your kids are too little (like mine) to sit through a show. In that case, make it a girls night! Gather some friends and see the show, or make it a grown-up family event, like I did.

I was excited to have a night out with my Mom and my Grandmother. Three generations of women hanging out at the Wang Center in Boston! With my Grandmother in her 80s, my Mom with a busy schedule while my Dad is in Afghanistan, and I with a toddler and a career, there are not many times in recent years that just the three of us have done something together. As we headed into Boston, it brought back memories of the three of us in the past heading to Boston during the holidays to shop at the original Filene’s Basement or see a show, and it was fantastic to have that experience again with them.

The show itself? I was blown away. I don’t want to giveaway the details of the show so you can be just as surprised, but suffice to say that the precision dancing, the costumes, the music, the energy, the lighting, the special effects, and the technology made it one of the best shows I have ever seen. My Mom was laughing, my grandmother was clapping and I was emotional over the beauty of the performance.

Seriously, if you have time before the show comes to an end, you really need to find the time to go. Take your Mom and Grandmother. Take your Mom and Aunt, or your Mom and Dad. Go with your best friend. Or, of course, bring your kids. Maybe just go with your partner and make it a date night. Either way, find someone and line kick your way to this spectacular show. Since I would really, really, love you to see it, here is a special 25% discount!

1. Log onto: www.citicenter.org/radiocity

2. Select a non-peak performance show time, which is either:

  • 12/13 at 7:30pm
  • 12/14, 12/15, 12/20, 12/21 at 2pm or 7:30pm
  • 12/22 at 5pm or 8pm,
  • 12/23 at 2pm
  • 12/26, 12/27 or 12/28 at 5pm.
  • *Note: there are a lot more performance times but they are considered peak show times so the discount does not apply

3. Enter Promo Code: ROXMOM11 (Works on all seats except the $130 seats)

4. Then go have some fun!

Or to really jingle your bells for the next Charlene Chronicles’ 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways, Sharon R. won the 4 tickets to see the show on December 28th at 5pm AND attend a meet and greet before the show with the World Famous Radio City Rockettes! How cool is that!

Lovable Labels Holiday Giveaway

For the second day of my 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways, I have a giveaway that is a bit more practical. It’s around this time of year when you get new clothes for the kids or realize they have lost their mittens (again). So whether you have a little one in day care, have kids involved in a gazillion (I think that is a real word) afterschool activities or just use the playroom at the gym, you want to label your child’s new swanky stuff because who wants to buy new mittens, um, again?

When I started having to worry about my stuff – specifically, the whereabouts of my son’s sippy cup, I used Permanent Marker. That didn’t work well. First, it would rub off on my hands or clothes if I handled it before the ink dried. Second, after one wash in the dishwasher, the label would be gone. Hence, I would have to do it again (and usually forgot) resulting in a lost sippy cup.

Oy.

Loveable LabelsUntil I learned about Lovable Labels. Super cute labels that I can stick everywhere!  Shoes, shirts, books, bags, cups, caps, hats and handbags. It can say anything you want: first name, last name, first and last, a quote or saying. You can have adorable icons too, like firetrucks, cars, princess crowns and more.

Despite being, well, loveable labels, they are functional labels too. They stick, don’t fade, are bleachable, washable, microwavable and are an affordable way to keep your stuff (frankly) yours. As well as prevent family fights over whose shoes are whose.

Lovable Labels sent me a complimentary Holiday Pack ($24.95) to check out, which includes:

•15 Regular Sticker Labels
•40 Slimline Sticker Labels
•6 Press n’Stick Clothing DOTS
•12 Shoe Labels
•2 Mini-Metal Tags

That is a lot of labels for a variety of items if you want to make sure that Susie is not wearing Sara’s coat or Mike is not wearing Matt’s shoes or Beth is not drinking out of Brittany’s sippy cup. Don’t forget about your own items too (they are just as important as the kids’ things!) Maybe it is household items, the diaper bag or stroller, or our items at the health club or office.

Better yet, scope out Lovable Labels for a fabulous holiday present. (Just sayin’.) You don’t have to worry about if it is the right size or right style!

And how about winning a Lovable Labels Holiday Pack to keep or gift! Lovable Labels is giving two Charlene Chronicles readers their own holiday pack customized to the name and icon of your choosing! So leave a comment below and enter to win! And thanks for Lovable Labels for loving us this holiday season!

Congratulations to English L. and Jennifer for winning this 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways!
