Online Consignment: Swap.com

I recently had my first experience shopping clothes consignment online. I’m a big fan of consignment, shopping in local stores. I enjoy reusing and recycling, and knowing someone else’s trash is my treasure, as the saying goes. It is also another way to get luxury goods at an affordable price. However, I have not tried online consignment websites for clothes for my kids, my family members or myself!

What is Swap.com

So I recently tried Swap.com. I received a complimentary $100 credit to experience the Swap shopping. What interested me the most was that Swap has been around online since 2013 and aims to be the largest online consignment store. The site adds thousands of new items every day, so you’ll never know what you’ll find. While most online consignment sites are focused on high fashion (shoes, handbags, jewelry) for women, Swap.com is more of your classic thrift store, but online, with practical and cool items that you can’t get anywhere else.

For example, I got a tie for my Dad for Father’s Day, a kite for my nephew, sparkly gold Mary Jane shoes, a school shirt and leggings for my daughter, a shirt and sweater for me, a backpack for my niece, and three superhero T-shirts for my son. Everything came to $98 and shipping was free. It was one stop shopping for a variety of family members and various occasions.

Issues to Note

One negative about the site I found was the lack of photographs. For example, a scarf caught my eye, but there was only one photo of the scarf and I could not see the pattern, length or shape in full. I also thought some of the items were a bit expensive for consignment items. I could find similar items at big box discount stores or clearance sections of popular retail stores.

Reasons to Try Swap.com

However, I was enthralled with the navigation on the site. I could search for ‘New with tag’ items, or like new items. I could shop by gender, size, item, and price range. The sheer opportunity for custom searching made it a pleasure, and efficient, to shop. I also liked that the site had consignment toys and games!

Definitely bookmark the site for holiday or back-to-school shopping and it is a great way to get on-budget toys for babies and toddlers who ‘outgrow’ toys quickly. Lastly, if you are not sure about ‘used’ clothing, the site does have a large selection of New With Tag clothing, as I mentioned before!

Finally, one last point to note is that there is a 30-day return policy so it is a great way to try out Swap, see if the items fit, or work for your family. Shipping was quick too, without having to upgrade.

I really like the site overall and will definitely be shopping there again! Want to know my tips for consignment shopping, online or in-person before you give Swap.com a go?? Then read my article here!
