GE Momsperience

Back in January, I stopped by the GE Booth at a Blogging conference called Blissdom. I was drawn to this shiny and beautiful GE washer and dryer in all its glory.

Since mine look like this…

you can see why I was drawn to them.

I chatted with the representatives and learned that this laundry set was like a drying and washing nirvana. It had special settings for getting poop out of baby clothes, the stinkiness out of pet beds, automatic detergent loading options and more. We ended up chatting about kids, laundry, dogs and social media. (As strange as it sounds, it does all go together.)

As I left the booth, I made a vow to go home and start kicking the crap out of my current washer and dryer so I could say, “Oh honey, the washer is broken. I think we have to go buy a new one.”

<Sigh> Despite my frantic kicking over the past three months, I still have the old washer and dryer.

But one morning (cue angel music) I got an email from GE that ‘turned my frown upside down’. They remembered me and they wanted me to visit them in Kentucky. They wanted to continue the conversation about social media and laundry (again, not as weird as it may sound) with a small group of bloggers for a fun learning, sharing and cooking (geez louise, I hope I don’t burn the place down) experience at the GE Monogram Experience Center in Kentucky. Otherwise known as the “GE Momsperience!”

We are going to chat about the “Biggest Challenges in the Kitchen?” (mine would be actually having to cook) and “Entertaining Made Simple,” as well as other topics. There are other fun events planned too! I am really looking forward to going (even cancelled my attendance at another conference – sorry guys!), and sharing the experience with you. Not sure what to expect, but it should be fun all around.

But before I go, what is your biggest household challenge? I would love to be able to share your thoughts and comments with GE. They are listening. (Hmm, that is not supposed to be as creepy as it sounds.)

And to blow your minds, if you already follow me on Facebook or Twitter, just leave a comment, or start following me on Twitter and Facebook (and come back to post a comment with proof that you did) and one of you will be selected to attend the same event. Yup. GE will cover your airfare (or mileage reimbursement if you drive), hotel, and your meals/ground transportation in Louisville. How awesome is that. You must do one (or all three) no later than 11:59pm EDT on Saturday, April 30th and be able to attend the trip from Sunday, May 15 through Tuesday, May 17th.

Let’s have some fun!

Congrats to Christy!! and much bloggy love to everyone who entered. Truly wish all of you could come with me. <sniff>

MetrowestMamas and CharleneChronicles

After a post from a Facebook fan, I realized I better explain more about the resurgance of Metrowest Mamas. It has been on my list of things to write, but something has always popped in front.

For those of you who have been with me since the beginning, you first knew me as Metrowestmama on Twitter, on my Metrowestmama.Wordpress blog and the Metrowest Mamas Facebook page. However, when I decided to branch outside of just being a local mom blogger, I became Charlene Chronicles and many of you followed me over here, of which I am so grateful.

Fast forward to this past week when Metrowest Mamas came back.

I have been listening to many of you over the past 8 months. Some of you love Charlene Chronicles because it is everything you need; local events, local kids activities and other awesomeness. But some of you were getting a bit perturbed though, because you don’t live here in Massachusetts and weren’t interested in having your Facebook feeds listing local stuff. Then on yet another spectrum, some local Moms wanted a quick place to get links to activities and events and did not want to sift through other Charlene Chronicles posts.

It is such a hard balance.

So I decided, right or wrong, to try Metrowest Mamas on Facebook once again. This time, I am only listing local events and activities. Everything else will be on the Charlene Chronicles‘ Facebook page: videos, pictures, questions, posts and more. Some of you may end up liking both pages. Others one or the other.

On the website, there will be a Metrowest Mamas badge on the sidebar. So when you come to Charlene Chronicles and are just interested in local events, one click will take you to all the details. The main body of the blog will be general, generic goodness. However, I am going to start dedicating some of my posts to fashion and beauty, and I am going to be combining my fitness and health posts. So you will be seeing some icon changes over the next month or two. All in all, it should be some fun content.

Anyway, I hope it will please the majority of you and hopefully not too many will be upset with the changes. At this particular moment, it is how I think it would best work. However, I am always listening, so feel free to let me know what you think. Love it or hate it? The one great thing about Facebook and the Internet is nothing has to stay the same. But what will stay the same is my desire to bring you cool discoveries, funny posts, fun giveaways, and a passion and a sincerity for it all.

What do you think?

Dr. Karp Visits Isis Parenting

Have you heard of Dr. Karp?

He is the author of The Happiest Baby and The Happiest Toddler books and DVD series. Most have heard of him from his discovery of the ”Calming Reflex” to soothe fussy babies in minutes and help any baby sleep an extra 1-3 hours a night.

The cool thing is that he is giving a presentation on Thursday, May 5 from 6-8pm at Isis Parenting in Hanover (Merchant’s Row Marketplace – just off exit 13 on Route 3).

In addition to soothing babies, Dr. Karp will present on ways to communicate with children 8 months to 5 years of age that can prevent 50-90% of tantrums in just days! (I so need this, right now.)

Cost is $15 a person or $25 a couple. The proceeds benefit the Massachusetts Citizens for Children, the oldest state-based child advocacy organization in the country. There will be book signing, audience Q & A, and refreshments too.

Space is limited so purchase your tickets at masskids.org or in person at any Isis Parenting center. Should be a fantastic event.

Green Ideas All Year Long

Earth Day has come and gone. As the tweets, posts, TV and radio ads die down, I wonder how can we continue to the momentum? Especially with our kids. How can we teach them that green living (even light green living) should be something done everyday and not just one day a year?

I asked you all this question in the last post, on Facebook, and Twitter, and I thank you all for your ideas and input.

Some of you suggested:

  • Having them pick up aluminum cans and bring them to the recycling center. Then they can keep the money to save, donate or spend.
  • If they have juice boxes, have them use glasses for juice instead.
  • Plant some veggies or flowers in the backyard or in a container on a porch. They can take old popsicle sticks and make signs for the different flowers and vegetables.
  • Take them to a Pick-Your-Own organic farm this summer.

Also, in the past posts, I have shared information about the Scott Naturals Pledge on their website where they encourage people to pledge to “test-drive” their new Scott Natural Products. Then, if you pledge, you can enter to win a hybrid car. I have also mentioned another way to help the green effort is to click this URL, which will donate one dollar for every click up to $25,000 to the Natural Wildlife Foundation.

A simple way this week is to have your kids go online and make the pledge. Check out the website and have a simple conversation. Maybe it is over green toilet paper, but it is something they use everyday and is an unique way to chat about the Earth and our daily impact on it.

Do they have other ideas on what they can do to help? What about a recycling craft project? I would love to hear your children’s ideas for the next post. If you leave a comment (or if they leave a comment!), I’ll giveaway another round of Scott Naturals products to say thanks!

Congrats to Lesley!
